REMBRANDT SCHAEFER
Rembrandt Schaefer was born in Philadelphia, PA in 1977 and raised in New Paltz,
NY. He received his Bachelors Degree in Computer and Systems Engineering from
Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1999 and currently resides in Pasadena, CA
where he is an Electronics Design Engineer for NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory.
He’s currently working on the electronics design for a gas chromatograph mass
spectrometer, a scientific instrument to be used for trace gas analysis on the Space
Station.
He has traveled extensively in the United States with numerous cross country
ventures that include rock climbing, backpacking and plein air painting. While living
in California, he particularly enjoys running trails and exploring the Eastern Sierra.
Rembrandt’s childhood was immersed in the Hudson River Valley, home of the
Hudson River School of Painters. He studied drawing at the Art Student's League
in New York and grew up with an exposure to art museums, galleries as well as
restoration and frame making studios. He studied painting with his father Ron
Schaefer and was also influenced by Robert Kulicke and St. Julian Fishburne.
He prefers plein air painting and the use of a muted palette to convey simple but
sensitive compositions in an effort to capture the quiet and subtle beauty of
seemingly desolate landscapes and obsolete structures.
